THE UK’s largest ultra-rapid public EV charging network has begun work at its next superhub site in Chicklade.
The first phase of works has begun to prepare the site prior to excavation and demolition of the old petrol station.
Formal construction is set to begin in March 2026, with the site expected to be completed in late summer.
The new 10,000 square foot site includes 30 ultra-rapid EV chargers, a premium farm shop retailer and café, outdoor seating, landscaped areas and children’s play area.
Following the same model as InstaVolt’s Winchester superhub, Chicklade will use solar power and large batteries to supplement its grid connection, allowing for more stable charging speeds.
The site is situated on the historic Fonthill Estate and is identified as a high traffic hotspot.
InstaVolt chief operating officer Matthew Tunstall was recently on-site to meet the project manager Bruno Skinner from Blackford Projects and the Gartell & Son construction team as they start work.
Matthew said: “This is a major milestone for us as we develop a fantastic asset for this area. “It will provide the perfect stop for EV drivers travelling through the region, as well as a destination for those who live nearby to recharge and make use of the amenities on-site.”
InstaVolt has more than 2,200 chargers across the UK, operating at over 99% uptime and powered by 100% renewable energy.
