Inspirational sign language performance at Salisbury Christmas tree festival

SOUNDS Better CIC captivated audiences at St Thomas’s Christmas Tree Festival in Salisbury with an uplifting performance that included a song with sign language.

Bringing together its four community singing groups for the second time, they collaborated on a song – ‘Gather Round’ – especially for the occasion on Tuesday (December 2).

Dedicated members even learned British Sign Language (BSL) for a verse in a rendition of ‘Silent Night’.

Sounds Better CIC is comprised of four local singing groups.

Director of Sounds Better CIC Liv McLennan said: “We’ve had a great year, and all our groups have worked hard to compose this new song, as well as to learn BSL for Silent Night.

“It felt great to be able to show the people of Salisbury what we’ve been working on.”

Many gathered at St Thomas’s Church.

Singing groups include the Downton Downtime group for people living with dementia who get together on a Tuesday morning.

For those living with lung conditions – the Salisbury Breathless Singers meet on a Tuesday afternoon in Wilton, while Harmony for Health gather in Mere every Thursday.

Salisbury Singing for Parkinson’s, run with the city branch of Parkinson’s UK, convene at St Francis Church monthly on the first and third Monday.

Sounds Better CIC also runs six-week Sing and Breathe introductory courses in partnership with Salisbury’s Parish Nurse at venues around the city and via Zoom.
