PEOPLE are being invited to mark Holocaust Memorial Day at a special event in Salisbury next month.
Salisbury City Council will commemorate the day with an event at The Guildhall on Tuesday, January 27, with doors opening at 9.30am.
The programme will include readings, contemplations, presentations and a morning prayer, offering attendees an opportunity to reflect on how to create a more inclusive and compassionate society, free from hatred, prejudice and discrimination.
City council leader Cllr Sam Charleston said: “As we remember all those murdered during the Holocaust and under Nazi persecution, as well as the victims of genocides that followed, we reaffirm our responsibility to stand against all forms of hatred and discrimination.
“It underscores the importance of ongoing vigilance, education and shared commitment to prevent such atrocities in the future.”
The international day remembers the six million Jews murdered during the Holocaust, alongside the millions more people murdered through the Nazi persecution of other groups and where persecution led in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.
