SALISBURY District Hospital has warned that its Accident and Emergency department is currently experiencing very high demand and is urging the public to attend only if they have an emergency or life-threatening condition.
Hospital leaders say extended waiting times are likely as staff prioritise patients who are most seriously unwell, particularly during the busy winter period.
Residents are being asked to consider other NHS services where appropriate, including local pharmacies for expert advice on minor illnesses, NHS 111 for guidance on the most suitable care and GP practices via usual appointment routes.
Those with less serious injuries may also be able to access treatment at a Minor Injuries Unit, such as the unit in Andover, which can help with minor head injuries, facial and eye injuries, and fractures.
The Salisbury Walk-In Centre is also available during weekday evenings from 6.30pm to 10pm and from 8am to 8pm at weekends.
Hospital staff thanked the public for their continued patience and understanding, stressing that using the right service helps ensure emergency care is available for those who need it most.
Further advice on staying well this winter and choosing the most appropriate NHS service is available on the hospital’s “Stay Well This Winter” webpage.
