FIREFIGHTERS have confirmed that there is no public meeting being held at Wilton Fire Station tomorrow following online speculation.
The crew says they are touched by the well wishes they have received from residents since it was announced last month that the station could close.
In a social media post, the station said: “We have viewed several posts on various local social media pages suggesting a meeting, but we must stress this is not the case and no public meeting is taking place here.
“All of the crew are extremely humbled by the kind posts and messages of support that we have received but we are unable to respond or comment further at this time.”
Stations at Ramsbury, Bradford-on-Avon, Mere, Cranborne, Hamworthy, Maiden Newton and Charmouth are also under threat.
Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Authority will discuss the station closures on February 10 when it will be decided whether to hold a 13-week public consultation.
The statement went on: “If the Fire Authority decide to progress with the proposal to close Wilton Fire station, then we will keep you updated on the public consultation process.
“We encourage you to use the public consultation process, should it be initiated, to ensure that your voice is heard. Thank you from all the crew.”
Wiltshire Council member for Wilton Cllr Pauline Church said members of Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service would be attending a meeting of the South West Wiltshire Area Board this evening to give a presentation and answer any questions about both Wilton and Mere Fire Station.
Wilton Town Council has declined to comment at this moment.
Interim town clerk Brie Logan told the Gazette: “Wilton Town Council does not yet have a position on the closure of the fire station. Once the consultation is published then WTC as the corporate body will provide a response.”
