AMESBURY’S Stonehenge Disc Golf Club has been crowned one of the best in the country after scooping five national awards – just four years after being founded on scrubland behind the Kingsgate estate.
The volunteer-run club was named Club of the Year for the second consecutive year at the English Disc Golf Association awards, capping a remarkable night that saw it secure five titles from ten nominations.
Alongside Club of the Year, the Amesbury group collected Tournament of the Year for its sold-out Stonehenge Skirmish British Tour round, Course of the Year, Member’s Player of the Year for Paul Stoddart and Community Champion for Ben Ward.

Three junior players were also nominated, underlining the club’s growing strength at grassroots level.
The success marks a dramatic rise for a club founded in 2021.
Two years ago, members began working with Amesbury Town Council to expand and improve the course.
In just two months, volunteers redesigned and extended the layout, supported by £2,000 from PDGA Europe and £1,000 from Community Grants Wiltshire.
The result is a 22-hole permanent course offering multiple layouts for all abilities, from a beginner-friendly Red course to a more demanding Black layout for advanced players.
The club also assists with maintaining the wider parkland area.
Its flagship event, the Stonehenge Skirmish, brought 72 players from across the UK to Amesbury and has now been officially recognised as Tournament of the Year, praised for its professionalism and welcoming atmosphere.

Community champion Ben Ward said: “I started playing at the course just after covid. At first it was great to get the kids out. But soon I’d bumped into others on the course and began to join them on Sundays and Tuesdays.
“Eventually joining the committee – a committee that now exists of the original few who helped set up the course and new local players who are vital to the community we have created.
“These people and the members of the club really have made this what it is today. Giving every event we hold a professional feel, but making you feel like you’re part of the family.
“Which is why we now get so many players from all around the country coming to the town.”
From free Sunday sessions to national titles, Stonehenge Disc Golf Club’s story is one of community passion turned national success.
