NEARLY 50 motorists were caught speeding during targeted enforcement on a Tidworth road, police have said.
Amesbury Police’s Speed Enforcement Team carried out two half-hour checks on Park Road yesterday (February 26) – one shortly after the morning school run and another at midday.
The road has a clearly displayed 30mph speed limit.
In total, 47 vehicles were recorded exceeding the limit, with the fastest driver clocked at 53mph.
Although a similar number of motorists were detected speeding in each session, officers said significantly higher speeds were recorded during the operation.
Of those caught, 41 drivers will be offered a speed awareness course, depending on their previous convictions and driving history.
Five motorists are set to receive a fixed penalty notice and three penalty points, while one driver will be dealt with through the courts.
Proceedings will now be undertaken to ensure what police described as the most appropriate outcome for each offender.
Amesbury Police said drivers who speed put other road users and pedestrians at risk and could face fines, penalty points or disqualification.
The force added that it remains committed to keeping communities safe and will continue carrying out speed checks across the local area.
