‘Petrified’ care manager tackles tower – fuelled by courage and chocolate

A CARE home manager is preparing to face her biggest fear by abseiling 160 ft down a historic tower to raise money for charity.

Carol, who manages OSJCT Buckland Court in Amesbury and Willowcroft in Salisbury, has signed up to descend King Alfred’s Tower this April in support of SOS Africa.

Those who know her say two things are certain – she is “absolutely petrified of heights” and never one to turn down a challenge.

Don’t look down! St Alfred’s Tower.

She is taking on the daunting drop to raise funds and awareness for SOS Africa, a charity that supports vulnerable children by providing safe homes, education and opportunities for a brighter future.

Colleagues, residents, families and members of the community are being encouraged to support Carol’s efforts by donating or sponsoring her challenge.

Carol said the cause made it worth confronting a lifelong fear.

“Facing my fear is nothing compared to the challenges these children face every day,” she said. “If doing this helps give them safety, education, and opportunity, then it’s absolutely worth it.”

Supporters are also being invited to cheer her on during the challenge.

Despite her nerves about the descent, Carol has kept her sense of humour about the task ahead.

“If you see her clinging to the wall,” Carol laughed, “please send chocolate!”

SOS Africa works to improve the lives of disadvantaged children by providing housing, schooling and long-term support aimed at helping them build secure futures.
