THE ladies of Salisbury and South Wilts Golf Club have once again shown the power of community spirit, raising thousands for a charity supporting people living with dementia.
Outgoing Lady Captain Debbie Lewin presented a cheque for £4,273 to Rachel Fear of Beyond Dementia at the club’s Ladies’ Section AGM.
The funds were raised throughout the year via charity days and table sales and will help support those living with dementia and their families across Wiltshire.
Debbie, who chose the charity for personal reasons – her father lived with dementia and her mother volunteers at the Dementia Day Centre on Scott’s Lane – said the donation was close to her heart.
Rachel Fear thanked all involved, assuring the ladies that the contribution would make a “big difference in the county”.
The AGM also celebrated the club’s golfing achievements, with 30 cups presented to prize winners from the year’s competitions.
Highlights included Alison Charles being named Scratch Club Champion and Golfer of the Year, Nicky Blanchard winning the Sarum Cup, Alison Carter earning Scratch Golfer of the Year and Phoebe Long recognised as Most Improved Player.

The handover tradition continued with the outgoing Lady Captain’s ‘putt in’ followed by the first ‘drive out’ from the new Lady Captain, marking the start of an exciting year ahead for the Ladies’ Section.
