RESIDENTS are being urged to attend a public meeting in Wilton tonight as concerns continue over the future of the town’s fire station.
Firefighters from Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service say they hope the meeting will draw a strong turnout from the community as part of an ongoing consultation into proposed fire station closures.
The event will take place at Castle Meadow Pavilion on Castle Lane from 6pm to 8pm, with a second session scheduled for tomorrow (Tuesday, March 10), from 10.30am to 12.30pm.
Crews at Wilton Fire Station have been preparing for the meetings while continuing their daily duties – even giving the station a thorough spring clean.
In a message shared with residents, firefighters said: “The crew have been busy giving the station a spring clean, even the appliance bay was emptied and given a wash down.
“Help us to make sure that Castle Meadow Pavilion is not as empty as our appliance bay, come and show your support at the public meetings and engage with the public consultation.”
Organisers say the sessions will not be drop-in events.
Instead, they will begin with a short presentation followed by time for questions from members of the public.
Firefighters stressed the importance of arriving on time to ensure residents can hear the presentation and take part in the discussion.
The meetings form part of a wider consultation by Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service about potential changes to fire service provision across the area.
More information about the consultation can be found on the service’s website.

Although I’m not able to attend the meeting I fully support the campaign to keep Wilton fire station open .
The population of Wilton and Salisbury has greatly increased over recent years and therefore the need for more help from local fire brigade is necessary not less !
