Salisbury support workers take on 200-mile walk for homeless

TWO Salisbury support workers are preparing to swap their desks for walking boots as they take on a gruelling 200-mile challenge to raise money for people experiencing homelessness.

Hannah and Lisa, who work for Salisbury Trust for the Homeless (STFH), will spend the whole of July clocking up the miles on routes across the city and surrounding area in a bid to raise funds and awareness for the charity’s work.

The challenge begins on July 1 and will see the pair walking an average of more than six miles every day throughout the month.

Their efforts come as demand for support remains high and charities continue to face increasing financial pressures.

Unlike many organisations, STFH receives no government funding and relies entirely on donations and community support to continue its work.

The challenge was inspired by former chairperson Phyllis Babb, who raised more than £12,000 last year.

Her fundraising helped furnish a new property opened by the charity in January and launched a programme to improve furniture and facilities across its accommodation.

Hannah and Lisa hope to build on that success while highlighting the challenges faced by some of the city’s most vulnerable residents.

Supporters will be able to follow every mile of the journey through online updates and activity tracking, with regular progress reports shared throughout July.

A special celebration is also planned when the pair complete their final mile.

The STFH provides accommodation and support to people who would otherwise be at risk of homelessness, helping them rebuild their lives and move towards greater independence.

Anyone wishing to support Hannah and Lisa’s challenge can donate through their GoFundMe fundraising page.

With 200 miles ahead of them, the pair are hoping the Salisbury community will get behind the challenge and help turn every step into practical support for people who need it most.
