POLICE in Ringwood have revealed details of a busy few days that saw officers arrest a suspected drink-driver, track down a wanted man and locate a recalled prisoner hiding in a cupboard.
One of the most dramatic incidents unfolded in the Bickerley area last Thursday when officers spotted a man wanted by Wiltshire Police who was also allegedly driving without a licence.
When officers attempted to catch up with him, the driver reportedly abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot.
Police quickly located the car and, with help from members of the public, tracked down the suspect a short time later.
A 49-year-old man from Fordingbridge was arrested in connection with the outstanding offence and on suspicion of drink-driving. His vehicle was seized.
The following day, a neighbourhood policing sergeant working in plain clothes noticed a man who appeared intoxicated in the Lidl car park in Ringwood.
After watching him get into a vehicle and drive away, officers stopped the car.
The driver allegedly blew a roadside breath test reading of 104 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath – almost three times the legal limit of 35.
A 52-year-old man from Ringwood was arrested and taken into custody.
Officers also tracked down a prolific shoplifter who was wanted after being recalled to prison for theft offences.
Despite assurances from a resident that he was not at the address, police found the man hiding inside a cupboard.
The neighbourhood team credited residents for helping officers locate both wanted men.
Police are also trying to reunite an owner with a bicycle found near Tesco in Poulner, which is believed to have been lost or stolen.
