Ten days of nature and wellbeing as Breathing Spaces begins

FROM wild swimming and riverside adventures to yoga, wildlife walks and family festivals, Salisbury is set to celebrate the great outdoors as Breathing Spaces 2026 gets underway this weekend.

The ten-day programme, running from Saturday (June 27) to Sunday, July 5, will offer more than 30 free and low-cost activities aimed at helping people improve their wellbeing, connect with nature and meet others in the community.

Organisers are encouraging residents of all ages to make the most of Salisbury’s parks, rivers, nature reserves and green spaces as part of the city-wide celebration.

One of the highlights is expected to be the Wild and Green Family Festival at River Bourne Community Farm in Laverstock on Saturday, June 27.

Running from 10am to 2pm, the free event will feature river-themed activities, birds of prey, botanical art, environmental organisations, volunteering opportunities and hands-on activities for children and adults.

The opening day also includes opportunities for wild swimming and organised dog walks.

Across the following week, people can take part in guided nature walks, conservation projects, gardening activities, paddle sport taster sessions, fishing experiences, cycling events, wildlife talks and wellbeing walks.

Breathing Spaces has been organised by Safer and Supportive Salisbury (SaSS), a partnership focused on reducing isolation and improving wellbeing across the city.

SaSS chair Anne Trevett BEM said: “Since announcing Breathing Spaces, we’ve been delighted by the positive response from local organisations and residents.

“This programme showcases the incredible green and blue spaces we have in and around Salisbury and the many friendly groups that help people enjoy them.

“We hope people will use Breathing Spaces as an opportunity to try something new, meet new people and discover just how beneficial spending time outdoors can be for both physical and mental wellbeing.”
