Musicians invited to perform at Wilton festival busking bench

MUSICIANS are being invited to help provide the soundtrack to this year’s Wilton Autumn Festival by performing on a special Busking Bench outside Old St Mary’s.

Organisers at Engage Wilton said the bench will create a lively musical backdrop during the festival, keeping visitors entertained between events and bringing live music to the heart of the town.

And they are casting the net wide with solo singers, violinists, cellists, ukulele groups, duos and full bands all being encouraged to get involved.

The idea is to turn the area outside Old St Mary’s in Market Place into a hub of live performance throughout the day, giving local musicians the chance to showcase their talent in front of festival-goers and a supportive crowd.

Performers will be able to collect donations from the public, with organisers asking that they make a contribution in return to the Old St Mary’s Lighting Fund.

Engage Wilton said the Busking Bench would help create “memorable moments” across the festival and is urging anyone interested to get in touch.

Residents are also being encouraged to spread the word to friends, family or fellow musicians who might want to take part.

The appeal forms part of planning for the autumn event, with organisers hoping live music will add to the atmosphere and help make the festival one of the highlights of the season in Wilton.

Anyone interested in performing is being asked to contact Engage Wilton directly.
