YOUNG voices from across Amesbury have been celebrating everything that makes their town special in a heartwarming community competition.
The “Our Amesbury. Our Community.” initiative, launched by the mayor of Amesbury Cllr Dr Monica Devendran, invited residents to put pen to paper and share what they love most about where they live.
Entries captured the town’s rich history, unique character and strong sense of community, with many highlighting its global significance as the home of Stonehenge.
Participants described Amesbury as “a great place to visit” with “a museum about history, Romans and more”, while one entry summed up the town’s appeal by saying: “If you visit us you will have one of the best experiences of your life.”

Cllr Devendran praised everyone who took part, thanking residents for sharing their creativity and pride in the town.
The competition winners have now been announced as Faith Ssewanyana, Alex Pekala, Sonny Maudsley, Kai Leece and Olivia Mae Easden, with their entries showcasing a range of thoughtful and imaginative reflections on Amesbury life.
Organisers say the competition was about more than just writing – it was about giving people, particularly younger residents, a chance to have their voices heard and to celebrate the place they call home.
The mayor also paid tribute to Jenn Taylor, bookings and events officer at Amesbury Town Council, for her role in helping organise the initiative.
By encouraging residents to reflect on what makes Amesbury unique, the project has shone a light on the pride people feel in their community, from its ancient heritage to its welcoming spirit today.
The winning entries are now available to read on the town council’s website, offering a glimpse into how the next generation sees Amesbury – as a place full of history, warmth and opportunity.
