FAMILIES who have experienced the loss of a baby are being invited to take part in a lantern ceremony in Salisbury.
Organised by staff from the Stars Appeal Benson Suite, at Salisbury Hospital, Wave of Light will take place on Tuesday, October 15.
Wave of Light is being held to mark Baby Loss Awareness Week, with families invited to come together and light a lantern to remember their lost little ones.
It is taking place on the green in Cathedral Close from 6.30pm to 7.10pm, next to the Angels in Harmony sculpture. If it is raining, the event will be held in the Cathedral Cloisters.
The Benson Suite, part of the Maternity Department at Salisbury District Hospital, provides a dedicated, private space where families who sadly experience the death of a baby at birth can be cared for with their baby, away from the Labour Ward.
The specialist suite helps ensure the time these families are able to spend with their baby is as precious, dignified and personal as possible.
Lanterns and battery candles will be available and there will be tags to write personal messages.
Families can then take their lanterns home after the event. During the evening poems will be read and there will be a minute’s silence.
