Community invited to speak up at Wilton council meeting

RESIDENTS in Wilton are being invited to have their say ahead of the town council’s annual meeting next week with a deadline looming for questions to be submitted.

Wilton Town Council has confirmed its next Full Council meeting will take place on Monday, May 11 at 7pm, when a new mayor and deputy mayor for the 2026/27 civic year will also be elected.

People can attend in person at Wilton Baptist Church or join virtually, with an open forum at the start of the meeting giving residents the chance to raise issues directly.

Questions can also be submitted in advance by email or phone to be read out on their behalf.

The call for public input comes as the council continues work on a number of projects across the town.

Among the latest developments, councillors and officers have been meeting contractors to discuss planned improvements at Castle Meadow, including upgrades to a storage compound.

Representatives from the Men’s Shed group were also involved in discussions as part of the first phase of the project.

Plans are also progressing for a refreshed Christmas lights display in 2026, with the council exploring new ideas to create a more “visually impactful and innovative” scheme.

There are also hopes of expanding this year’s Christmas lights switch-on event with support from a local events team.

Elsewhere, an extraordinary council meeting has been held to move forward proposed renovations to town centre public toilets; an issue that has attracted strong interest.

Other ongoing work includes updates to council policies ahead of the annual meeting, improvements to the council’s website to better promote local events and news, and continued efforts to maintain accurate cemetery records.

With several key projects under way, councillors say they are keen to hear from residents about what matters most to them as decisions continue to shape the future of the town.
