Community order for Salisbury shoplifter who assaulted security guard at Primark

KAREN Baird has been handed an 18-month community order after she assaulted a security guard and stole £75 worth of items from Primark.

The 36-year-old of Carmelite Way committed the offences at the store on George Street on January 8.

She was arrested and pleaded guilty in a hearing at Salisbury Magistrates’ Court on May 29.

She was sentenced to an 18-month community order and is required to attend 12 sessions of mental health treatment and six months of alcohol treatment with charity Turning Point, and complete up to 15 Rehabilitation Activity Requirement days.

She is also required to pay £200 in compensation.

PC 71059 King, based in Salisbury, said: “Assaulting a security guard is a serious offence and will not be tolerated.

“Shoplifting also has a significant impact on local businesses and customers alike, resulting in increased expenses for businesses and then higher prices for consumers.

“We will continue to work closely with local stores to identify and apprehend any offenders.”
