FIREFIGHTERS battled through the night to bring a blaze at a landfill site under control – which may have affected water pressure in nearby homes.
Crews from Poole, Christchurch, Wimborne and Salisbury were called to a “significant” fire at the Onyx Landfill Site, off the B3081 near Verwood, at around 9.10pm last night.
“At the height of the incident, there were approximately 40 firefighters working to contain the fire,” a spokesperson from Poole Fire Station said.
And they said households may have noticed a fall in water pressure this morning due to the mammoth effort to put the fire out.
“This morning, you may have noticed a reduction in mains water pressure, this is likely because we set up a high volume pumping system to supply water to the fire ground,” they added.
“You will see this equipment at the entrance to the Ebblake industrial estate and along the B2081.”
