From aisles to miles: Salisbury manager runs for foodbank

A SALISBURY supermarket manager is going the extra mile – quite literally – to support families in need across the city.

Craig Haywood, store manager at Tesco Extra Salisbury, is preparing to take on the iconic London Marathon on Sunday, April 26, in a bid to raise £2,000 for Salisbury Foodbank.

The 26.2-mile challenge is more than just a personal goal for Craig – it is a cause close to his heart.

Through his work with the food bank, he sees first-hand the growing number of people relying on its support.

Currently, the charity helps around 600 people every month, providing emergency food parcels and practical support to those facing hardship, with around 40% of those supported being children.

“Our local food bank provides a vital lifeline for so many people in the area,” said Craig.

“Knowing they support around 600 people every month, of which 40% are children really brings home how important their work is.

“Running the London Marathon is a huge challenge for me, but if I can raise £2,000 to help them continue supporting our community, it will be worth every mile.”

Craig is no stranger to fundraising, having previously taken part in events like Tough Mudder alongside colleagues, and even serving as a trustee for the food bank.

Now, as he trains for one of the world’s most famous races, support has been pouring in from customers and colleagues alike.

Maria, manager of Salisbury Foodbank, praised his efforts, saying: “We’re incredibly grateful for Craigs’ ongoing support of Salisbury foodbank.

“In previous years Craig and several of his colleagues took part in Tough Mudder to fundraise for us.

“Craig also volunteered as a foodbank trustee for a number of years. The world needs more Craigs, dedicated to give up their time and energy for good causes, we simply could not exist without the community’s ongoing support.”

Craig hopes every step he takes will help make a difference, adding that even small donations can go a long way.

With race day fast approaching, he’s urging the community to get behind the cause, and help turn miles into meaningful support for those who need it most.
