Parents urged to speak out on childcare pressures

PARENTS across Wiltshire are being urged to speak out about the rising pressures of childcare costs, availability and limited spaces as the council launches a county-wide survey.

Wiltshire Council has said it wants to hear directly from families about the reality of finding and paying for childcare and whether enough suitable places exist where they live.

The survey asks parents and carers about the types of childcare they use, the hours they need, how affordable it is and where gaps in provision are causing problems.

Officials say the feedback will help shape future childcare services across the county.

For many families, childcare has become one of the biggest financial challenges of raising children, with parents often struggling to balance work, school runs and limited nursery or wraparound care.

Cabinet member for children’s services Cllr Jon Hubbard said: “Making sure families can access the right childcare, in the right places, is essential to giving children the best start in life and supporting parents to work, train or study.

“This survey is a vital opportunity for parents and carers to tell us what is working well and where more support is needed.”

The council says it wants to hear from all families – including those who do not currently use childcare – to build a clearer picture of local demand and shortages.

Responses will also help Wiltshire Council meet its legal duty to ensure there is enough childcare provision across the county.

Parents and carers can complete the survey online before it closes on Friday, May 29.
