POACHING prevention was on the agenda during a police visit to a fishing club near Salisbury.
Officers from Wiltshire Police’s Rural Crime Team were out and about to discuss ongoing issues at hotspot areas for poaching – and to help identify any prevention methods.
“Poaching can have a serious impact on the business of the clubs with stock being taken which either has to replaced or if they are wild fish then they will have to wait for the stocks to naturally rise back up which can take significant time,” a spokesperson said.
“We encourage a crime in progress to be reported to Police via 999 or after the event report online on the Wiltshire Police website. If you cannot report online, please call 101.”
Anyone with information about illegal fishing activities can contact the Environment Agency incident hotline on 0800 807060.
