POLICE and specialist drone teams carried out patrols in Salisbury last week following reports of drones being flown near schools.
Officers from Salisbury’s Neighbourhood Policing Team joined the Drone Unit on Friday after sightings sparked concern among residents already anxious over recent incidents involving drones in the city.
During the operation, plain clothes officers stopped a drone operator and inspected the aircraft.
Checks showed the drone had been used to photograph progress on the Salisbury River Park project.
However, police said the operator was reported for several drone offences, including having no flyer or operator ID and no insurance.
The drone was seized.
Wiltshire Police stressed the incident was not connected to a recent criminal conviction that has heightened tensions locally.
A spokesperson said: “We are aware of the local community tension around the flying of drones near schools currently, and we would like to reassure you that last week’s sightings are not related to the recent criminal conviction.”
Police said neighbourhood officers will continue patrols in the area and warned that drone operators may be stopped and asked to provide documentation.
The force is also urging residents to keep reporting suspicious drone activity.
“Please continue to report any suspicious or concerning behaviour to us and we will investigate,” the spokesperson added.
Drone users are being reminded they must follow Civil Aviation Authority rules, including registration requirements.
