Rare beers will be flowing at Salisbury’s beer and cider festival Summerfest

BEER lovers will be spoilt for choice at this year’s Summerfest, as organisers have announced there will be a variety of great ales not usually seen this far south.

This year’s popular summer beer and cider festival is taking place at the Guildhall from Friday, June 20, to Saturday and will feature a healthy selection of visitors from up north.

This includes 50 Winks, a ruby mild produced by the Wakey Wakey Brewing Company in Rochdale, Lancashire; Triple Hop, a golden ale using, as its name suggests, three hop variants from the Brunswick Brewing Company in Derby and Zambesi Rouser, a pale ale from the Empire microbrewery in the idyllic Yorkshire village of Slaithwaite.

These new additions will be bolstered by a strong selection of real ales and ciders from Wiltshire and the surrounding counties.

“While our commitment to our much-loved local breweries remains absolute, we thought that we should introduce our festival-goers to some beers that they are unlikely to find anywhere else in the Salisbury area,” said Andrew Hesketh, festivals co-ordinator for the Salisbury & South Wiltshire branch of CAMRA who is organising the event.

“They will be able to broaden their beer-drinking horizons without leaving the magnificent surroundings of Salisbury Guildhall.”

Drinks will be sold in half-pint and one-third of a pint measures, and card-carrying CAMRA members will get half a pint free.

CAMRA has confirmed that it is extending the closing time on Saturday evening so the party can continue until 9pm, with the day split into two sessions following feedback.

The festival will kick off at 6.30pm on the Friday (June 20) with the fun running through until 11pm. Saturday’s (June 21) festivities will start at 11am until 3pm, and then 5pm to 9pm.

Tickets are £12 but as an introductory offer for the Saturday evening session, organisers are charging just £8.

People are being urged to get their tickets now, as the 2024 event sold out in advance.
