Salisbury charity praised for life-changing learning disability support

A CHARITY in Salisbury that helps people with learning disabilities live more independent lives has been recognised on the national stage.

ALABARÉ was one of just five finalists in the Supported Housing category at the National Learning Disability and Autism Awards 2026 with staff travelling to Birmingham for the awards ceremony, hosted by singer and television personality Peter Andre.

The charity provides 37 supported living places across Salisbury and Amesbury, helping residents develop everyday life skills such as budgeting, cooking, looking after their homes and preparing for employment.

It also organises social events including football tournaments, quiz nights, gala balls and its annual ALABARÉ’s Got Talent competition.

Head of learning disabilities services at ALABARÉ Georgina Hackett said: “I’m so pleased that we were named as finalists at the awards, as it’s a real testament to the hard work and dedication our colleagues put into supporting clients every single day, and often for many years.

“It was also a privilege to have been at the ceremony itself, celebrating the incredible efforts of charities and organisations across the country to enable people with learning disabilities to be seen, valued, and have choices about their care.”

The recognition comes after the charity’s supported living services were rated ‘Good’ across all areas by the Care Quality Commission last year.

A recent residents’ survey also found that 100% of people using the service were happy with the support they receive, while 97% said they felt fully involved in planning their care.
