Salisbury to host final leg of runner’s 55-city cancer fundraiser

SALISBURY will host the emotional finish line of an extraordinary year-long challenge this weekend, as a runner inspired by his mum’s cancer battle completes his 55th marathon in 55 English cities.

Adam Rodriguez, 29, from Taunton, will run his final marathon in Salisbury on Sunday, June 28, ending a gruelling challenge that began last July in Hereford.

The fundraiser was inspired by Adam’s mother Sharon, who survived large B-cell lymphoma after being diagnosed with cancer in three places.

Adam has spent the past year travelling the country, squeezing marathons into weekends while working full-time and raising money for MOVE Against Cancer – a charity that supports people living with and beyond cancer to stay active.

And Salisbury has been chosen for the final chapter.

The city finale comes after an already punishing weekend for Adam, who is due to run a marathon in Sheffield the day before heading to Salisbury to complete the challenge.

He said: “A few years ago my mother bravely battled large B-cell lymphoma in 3 places and while she survived, the journey tested every part of our family.”

He added that MOVE Against Cancer “bring hope, movement and community to people navigating the weight of cancer”.

Throughout the challenge, Adam has met ambassadors and members of the charity’s 5k Your Way groups across England, including those supporting people affected by cancer through walking, jogging, running and social meet-ups.

Now, Salisbury gets the final mile.

After 54 cities, countless hours on the road and a year of training, recovery and determination, Adam’s finish in Salisbury promises to be a powerful end to a challenge shaped by family, resilience and fundraising.
