MUSIC, memories and plenty of singing filled the air at a Salisbury care home as residents were joined by special guests for a heartwarming afternoon during Dementia Action Week.
Residents at Laverstock Care Centre welcomed members of the community for a special “Music and Memories” event, complete with high tea, live performances and classic songs that had everyone singing along.
The care home, a supporter of Wiltshire charity Beyond Dementia, marked the week with staff proudly wearing purple – the recognised colour for dementia support – while also encouraging fundraising for the charity.

Everyone ants to get involved.
A surprise highlight came when Hazel and Pauline from local choir Sing for Life joined residents for the afternoon.
The choir, which supports people affected by cancer through music and friendship, is currently paused while members search for a new leader.
Invited initially for tea and entertainment, the pair soon found themselves centre stage alongside Laverstock wellbeing lead Barry, who regularly accompanies residents on the piano.

As trays of cakes and sweet treats were wheeled in, residents enjoyed a lively singalong featuring favourites including Blue Moon, Fly Me to the Moon and a spirited rendition of White Cliffs of Dover, with some residents even taking to the microphone.
Staff said the event highlighted the powerful role music can play in sparking memories, lifting spirits and bringing people together.
Home manager Erin O’Shea said: “What a lovely afternoon we’ve had. I’m delighted Hazel and Pauline came along, and for them to join in and perform made the afternoon extra special.
“We all know how music brings people together and this event ticked every box.”
