Vintage and classic motorbike convoy helps raise money for Salisbury Foodbank

A FUNDRAISING event helped raise much-needed funds for both the Salisbury Foodbank and Help for Heroes.

A 15-strong convoy of vintage, classic, and modern classic motorcycles arrived at Finch House in Salisbury last Wednesday (May 21) for an event held by affordable retirement living brand Platinum Skies.

Set against the majestic backdrop of the newly renovated Grade II-listed Finch House, part of Platinum Skies’ Chapters community in Salisbury, the event was hosted in collaboration with Salisbury Foodbank, the charity partner of Salisbury Motorcycle & Light Car Club, and Help for Heroes, the national charity supporting wounded veterans and a partner of Platinum Skies.

The bikers turned heads as they arrived at 1pm, with the collection ranging from a 1928 vintage motorcycle to modern-day classics.

A spokesperson for Platinum Skies said: “Each machine was lovingly restored, just like Finch House itself.

“The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming, with neighbours, guests and club members mingling over homemade cake, Prosecco, and plenty of stories.”

Among the special guests were Maria Stevenson (manager) and Clare Wooler (supporter care administrator) from Salisbury Foodbank, and Philip Kimber, an ambassador for Help for Heroes.

A former member of the RAF Regiment – an often unsung ground force of the Royal Air Force – Philip shared his deeply personal journey of recovery after being injured by a missile during active duty and medically discharged.

“When I was hit during my deployment, my life changed in an instant,” he said. “I had to rebuild everything- physically, emotionally and mentally.

“Help for Heroes gave me the tools and the support to do that. They were there through the darkest days, and they’ve never stopped being there.

“It’s thanks to organisations like Platinum Skies and events like this that the message spreads.

“It’s not just about raising money – it’s about reminding veterans like me that people care, and that help is out there.”
