Warning after scam texts reported in Amesbury

RESIDENTS living in Wiltshire Council housing in Amesbury are being asked to be aware of suspicious scam texts.

These texts claim to be from the ‘Housing Maintenance Disrepair Team’ that claims that an urgent repair is needed.

They ask people to book appointments and request personal information, including how much people pay for rent, before demanding videos and photos of the property.

The scammers reportedly become aggressive when information was not shared with them.

A Wiltshire Council Housing spokesperson said: “These messages are NOT from Wiltshire Council Housing.

“While we do send appointment confirmations by text, they are system-generated, and we will never ask for personal information this way.”

Anyone who receives a text of this nature and is unsure whether it is legitimate or not is asked to contact the repairs team on 0300 456 0117 – option 2 or email housingrepairs@wiltshire.gov.uk.
