Wessex League extension approved by the FA

With the persistent issues caused by the weather throughout the 2022/23 season, The Wessex League announced this morning that the FA has approved an extension to ease the fixture congestion.

They said “The Wessex League, no doubt along with other Leagues at NLS Step 5 and 6, wrote to the FA requesting an extension to the season due to the many postponements caused by the recent bad weather, which has been approved.

In the Wessex League Premier Division, all games involving promotion and relegation can now be played up until Tuesday 25th April with the playoff game taking place on Saturday, 29th April. Premier Division Clubs not involved in promotion or relegation can now play up until Monday, 1st May.

Wessex League Division One must be completed no later than Monday, 1st May, with the playoffs completed by Monday, 8th May. No further extensions will be allowed”.

This week saw Bemerton Heath Harlequins’ trip to Horndean and Laverstock & Ford’s home fixture against Alresford Town both fall foul to the weather. Both sides still have 5 games to play before the end of their campaigns.

Meanwhile, in Division One, Downton, Ringwood, and Amesbury have all been fairly lucky with their fixtures and only have one or two fixtures left each. Downton will have eyes on the fixtures around them to see if they can sneak a playoff spot whilst Ringwood and Amesbury try to steer themselves away from the bottom three.
