£1 million lottery windfall transforms Salisbury street

A SALISBURY street has been transformed overnight after seven neighbours shared a life-changing £1 million lottery win, with one lucky resident scooping £125,000 after almost quitting the game altogether.

Daniel Christmas, 42, had previously cancelled his People’s Postcode Lottery subscription – only to be persuaded by his wife Gemma to start playing again.

Days later, their postcode SP1 3RD was announced as the winner of the Millionaire Street prize.

Relieved Daniel said: “I cancelled it for a little while, but Gemma convinced me to restore it. Thank goodness she did.”

Gemma added: “Good job I nudged him!”

The couple, who are in the middle of moving home in Salisbury, are now planning how to spend their unexpected windfall; from upgrading their house to possibly fulfilling a lifelong dream.

Daniel said: “The lifelong dream has been to own a Porsche…a black one. A 911 of some description. I might be able to do that now, but equally I have to be sensible.”

Their win is part of a wider £1 million prize shared among neighbours, with each ticket worth £125,000 – and one resident doubling their prize.

The news came while Daniel and Gemma were relaxing on a beach in Bournemouth. “It was only when the neighbours messaged that we believed it,” Daniel said.

Among the other winners is 87-year-old RAF veteran Ron Innell, who is now planning a long-awaited cruise.

“It’s just wonderful, absolutely wonderful. I can’t believe it was that amount,” he said.

“I’ve been waiting to go on a cruise. I haven’t been away for years… so I will go on a cruise.”

Elsewhere on the street, winners are planning everything from family holidays and first cars to helping loved ones – with many saying the shared experience has brought the community even closer together.

The win is also benefiting charities, with £75,000 awarded to the Building Heroes Education Foundation, which supports veterans into new careers.

Deputy chief executive Nicola Schneider said: “On behalf of everyone at Building Heroes Education Foundation, I would like to say a heartfelt thank you to the players of the Postcode Lottery for helping to make our work possible.”

“We are incredibly grateful to Postcode Lottery players for standing behind those who have served, and for helping us open the door to new opportunities, new careers and brighter futures.”

Other Salisbury-based causes have also received funding, ensuring the windfall will have a lasting impact far beyond one lucky street.
