Drink driver crashes into Salisbury wall

A DRINK driver who crashed into a wall in Salisbury has been banned from the roads.

Police were called to Devizes Road on August 17, 2024, following reports of a collision.

When officers arrived, they found a Honda Civic with extensive front-end damage after it had left the road and struck a wall.

Warren Barrett, 22, of Hazel Close, Bemerton Heath, was located at the scene.

Officers suspected he had been drinking and he failed a roadside breath test.

Further tests later showed he had 42 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath – above the legal limit of 35.

Barrett was charged and admitted drink driving.

At Salisbury Magistrates’ Court on April 2, he was disqualified from driving for 14 months.

He was also ordered to pay a £747 fine, a £299 victim surcharge and £200 in court costs.

PC McColm, based in Salisbury, said: “Drink driving is one of the fatal five offences, and anyone who makes the decision to drink and drive must be prepared to lose their licence for a significant period of time.

“It is a selfish act and on this occasion Barrett put himself and the public at risk of serious injury.”

Police continue to warn motorists about the dangers of drink driving, stressing that even a short journey can have serious consequences.
