SALISBURY FC managed to walk away with a point in their away game against Horsham FC on Saturday (August 30).
But the Whites failed to secure the three points – despite Horsham going a man down late in the second half.
The game started with a quick tempo as both teams came flying out the blocks.
Horsham created the first half chance of the match when Reece Myles Meekums drove into the box and drilled a low ball towards the six-yard box, but luckily Will Buse was on hand to palm the ball out of danger.
The Whites’ first chance came in the seventh minute when Josh Sommerton crossed the ball towards Evander Grubb, but the young forwards’ header was stopped well by Lewis Carey.
A minute later, Buse was awarded a yellow card for fouling James Roberts after the Horsham man got to the ball first.
In the 13th minute, Mike Atkinson put the Whites ahead with a wonder strike.
The midfielder was played the ball midway in the hosts’ half, he took a touch to get it out his feet and belted the ball home from 35-yards into the top corner.

Horsham then enjoyed a lengthy spell of possession, however Salisbury remained resolute and were able to retain their one nil lead into the half time interval.
Just after halftime, Buse pulled off a class double save.
The goalkeeper got down quick to deny Hester-Cook an equaliser and then followed up with a lightning fast reaction to stop the second attempt.
In the 50th minute, Revan crossed the ball for Tommy Lee-Higgs, the striker tried an ambitious effort but couldn’t quite keep his shot on target.
After a long spell of pressure, Meekums produced a moment of pure quality to level the score. He dribbled into the Horsham box and bent his strike into the far corner past an outstretched Buse.
Salisbury responded to being pegged back and began to commit bodies forward.
Less than a minute after the restart, Jack Brivio stamped on substitute Noah Coppin off the ball.
The fourth official saw the incident and informed the referee who sent Brivio off.
The Whites’ had a handball shout turned down in additional time after the ball appeared to strike Harding’s’ hand, the referee waved it away immediately.
After the five additional minutes were up, the referee sounded his whistle to confirm a point for both sides.
Salisbury is back on the road tomorrow (September 2) where they travel back to Sussex to play Worthing.
