Woman rescued following “horrific” fall into pub cellar

A WOMAN is resting up after she fell 7ft into a cellar at a pub in Amesbury.

Jema Paull fell into the cellar at The New Inn on the High Street in the afternoon on Monday (September 15) which was cut open ready for the businesses’ new glass floor installation.

Jema is part of the team working to reopen the pub.

The pub team described the fall as “horrific”, as she was in the cellar for four and a half hours, with fears she suffered a potential chest fracture.

Firefighters used ropes to rescue the woman before handing her over to paramedics.

Nate Saitch from the New Inn said: “I just wanted to let everyone know that Jema is OK. She’s battered and bruised, with a potential chest fracture, but thankfully no broken bones elsewhere and her scans are clear.

“A huge thank you to South Western Ambulance, Dorset & Wiltshire Fire, the Hampshire Technical Rope Rescue Team, and the amazing staff at A&E SDH.”

He called his friend Des Young, a retired paramedic, who was quick to arrive at the scene.

“An extra special thank you to Des Young, who got there before anyone else—despite now being retired from the NHS—showing up as both a civilian and a true friend,” he added.

I’m just so grateful she is OK, as she means everything to me. Jema is resting up now, and we can’t thank you all enough for your concern and kind wishes.”
