WATCH: Moment man trying to evade police crashes into gate

A 20-YEAR-old has been disqualified from driving for a year after he led officers on a dangerous car chase through Salisbury.

Officers spotted a red Ford KA on Devizes Road on August 28, 2024, which had been linked to crime and was seen being driven on cloned plates.

The force said the car “immediately” reacted to the police presence and tried to evade officers.

Tyson Sheppard, from The Valley in Bemerton Heath, was identified as the driver. He narrowly missed other vehicles and a pedestrian after mounting a kerb around the area of Bemerton Heath and Quidhampton.

In a dashcam video released by Wiltshire Police. Sheppard was seen swerving across roads and taking corners at high speeds in an attempt to evade officers.

The dramatic chase came to an end when Sheppard crashed into a gate on Penning Road, near to Hazel Close.

Forensic collision investigator Jamie Boyland said: “The manner of driving displayed by Sheppard during this pursuit fell well below the standard expected of a safe and competent driver.

“It is lucky nobody was injured as a result of his dangerous actions.”

Sheppard pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and was sentenced on September 15 at Salisbury Magistrates Court to a 12 month community order, and disqualified from driving for 12 months.

He must also complete 200 hours of unpaid work, pay £85 costs and a £114 victim surcharge.
