Perfumes have been stolen and minor damage has been caused to the vehicles, police said.

The force added that is some cases nothing valuable was left inside the vehicles and nothing was stolen, but glove compartments had been searched.

PC Rachel Wood said: “I’d really like to urge residents to report any incidents, even if nothing has been taken or if there appears to be no evidence, as it helps us build a picture of where these issues are happening and allows us to identify patterns of offences.

“Please, if you live in Longhedge or Old Sarum area, please check any home CCTV, doorbell footage or dash cams and get in touch if you have any footage of anybody acting suspiciously in the area around these times.

“If you see anybody late at night that appears to be trying car door handles, call 999.”

Anyone with information should email 2816@wiltshire.police.uk and quote crime reference number 54250128252.

The force has issued a reminder of advice people should take to reduce the chances of their vehicle being targeted.

This includes ensuring it is locked and no valuable items are left inside, checking door handles before people walk away, using a motion-activated dash cam which alerts when someone is nearby, considering installing motion activated CCTV overlooking the vehicle and marking property including work tools with UV pen or forensic fluid such as Smartwater.
