CITY councillors will this evening discuss plans to convert Elmfield House into six homes and construct an additional 15 properties on the site.
The scheme, including landscaping and associated works, has been on the cards since 2023 and has prompted road safety fears among some residents living in Petersfinger Road and nearby.
Susan Gilbert said: “We have real concerns about the present access via Petersfinger Road. This is a very narrow road in parts, with no pedestrian walkways or lighting.
“In fact, an ambulance was attending Windy Ridge in the summer, and cars were unable to pass – the road needs upgrading with pavements and street lighting for safety with pedestrians.”
Catherine Day added: “This road is used by a lot of people living nearby and is already a narrow road with no pathway and no street lighting.
“A significant increase in the traffic using this road will make it much harder and more dangerous for residents to safely use this road.”
National Highways has objected, citing A36 safety fears. “To date, no further information has been provided to address National Highways concerns although contact has been made by the applicant primarily to seek advice with regards drainage arrangements and culvert impacts.
“We are therefore recommending that the period of non-approval be extended for another six months.”
Salisbury City Council likewise objected to the plans in January 2024, stating concerns around traffic including the lack of a cycleway and footpath.
Members were also concerned about the loss of habitat at the site and its proximity to the water meadows.
Councillors will debate the scheme in The Guildhall again this evening (December 9) at 6.30pm.
