A MUM in Salisbury has raised more than £1,147 for the neonatal unit that cared for her premature baby for three months.
Eleanor Martin was inspired to fundraise for Salisbury NICU following the birth of her daughter, Merryn in February 2024.
Born at just 28 weeks and weighing 2lbs 10oz, Merryn spent three months in the care of the unit, receiving vital medical treatment and support.
Speaking about her experience, Eleanor said: “I do not have the words to describe the gratitude I have for the care and support we received whilst we were NICU residents at Salisbury.
“This was an incredibly emotional time for us, but the staff provided us with family centred support, teaching us how to care for and bond with Merryn confidently in a medical environment.

The money Eleanor raised running the Big Half marathon in London last September will support the hospital’s charity Stars Appeal.

Eleanor is not giving up!
The charity funds essential equipment such as incubators, parent rooms attached to the unit and wellbeing services including aromatherapy and live music sessions for parents.
Eleanor added: “Little things, like a hand massage or listening to the clarinet on a Thursday lunchtime, go a long way and are very much appreciated!”

The Stars Appeal continues to provide critical resources for premature and sick babies, ensuring families have the support they need during difficult times.
