Flood warning as river levels continue to rise

A FLOOD warning has been issued by the Environment Agency for the River Nadder, with more flooding expected in parts of south Wiltshire today.

High river levels mean flooding is likely between Tisbury and West Harnham, with low-lying land and roads at particular risk.

Areas likely affected include Tisbury, Chicksgrove, Sutton Mandeville, Dinton, Barford St Martin, Wilton, Quidhampton and Salisbury, especially locations close to the River Nadder.

As previously reported, several road closures are in place in these areas and rail routes have seen disruption.

River Nadder levels at Wilton are currently 0.47 metres – property flooding is possible when it goes above 1.30 metres.

The agency said overnight rainfall has pushed river levels above the flood warning threshold, and further rain forecast over the next two to three hours is expected to raise water levels further.

It warns that flooding may also affect areas near the River Wylye.

Level at South Newton are currently 0.68 metres – property flooding is possible when it goes above 1.01 metres

The Environment Agency said it is closely monitoring rainfall and river levels and urged people to take care, advising residents to avoid walking, cycling or driving through floodwater.

The agency usually issues a flood warning 30 minutes to two hours before flooding.

The warnings are due to be reviewed and updated by 5pm today, or sooner if conditions change.
