VETERANS, serving personnel and military families will be honoured in Salisbury later this month as the city comes together to mark Armed Forces Day.
The annual celebration, taking place on Sunday, June 28, will see the city centre transformed with military displays, family entertainment and a parade through the heart of Salisbury.
The day will begin with a procession leaving The Guildhall at around 9.55am, featuring representatives from the Armed Forces, the Lord Lieutenant’s Office, Salisbury City Council and Salisbury MP John Glen.
The parade will make its way along Fish Row and Butcher Row, before arriving in the Market Place, where opening speeches will be delivered by Salisbury mayor Cllr Jenny Bolwell and Colonel James Bird, Commander of Joint Military Command South West.
A packed programme of family-friendly activities has been lined up throughout the day, with military displays, free make-and-take workshops, children’s fairground rides, face painting, live entertainment and a variety of food, drink and retail stalls running between 10am and 4pm.
Armed Forces charities will also be present, offering visitors the chance to learn more about the support available for veterans, serving personnel and their families.
The celebrations are being organised by Salisbury City Council, with support from Headquarters South West, to recognise the contribution made by the Armed Forces community.
There is still time for retailers, food and drink vendors, and Armed Forces charities to get involved in the event by submitting an online application.
A council spokesperson said: “With many visitors and residents of Salisbury attending every year, it is a great occasion to showcase your organisation in the heart of the city centre.”
