Injunction secured over anti-social behaviour at car parks

A COURT injunction has been secured to tackle persistent anti-social behaviour at two Salisbury city centre car parks.

Wiltshire Council has obtained the order covering Culver Street and The Maltings car parks, giving it powers to act against people using the sites for purposes other than parking.

The injunction bans people from remaining in the car parks unless they are there to park a vehicle.

It also prohibits sleeping overnight, setting up tents or encampments, and leaving personal belongings in the car parks unless they are inside a parked vehicle.

Anyone occupying the sites must leave immediately and remove their belongings if asked.

St Edmund and Milford councillor Paul Sample said the move follows years of complaints from nearby residents.

He said: “For years local residents have complained about anti-social behaviour in these two car parks. It has been a running sore ever since they were built.”

The order is aimed at preventing the car parks from being used as informal camps or gathering spots, amid long-running concerns about nuisance behaviour and the impact on people living nearby.

Wiltshire Council has not yet said how long the injunction will remain in place, but the measure gives officers a stronger legal tool to intervene if problems continue.
