BILLY Conners has been jailed for 19 months after he admitted assaulting a woman in her 30s.
Conners, formerly of Castle Road, Salisbury, was put behind bars after admitting two counts of assault against the woman, from Melksham.
The 26-year-old was sentenced at Salisbury Crown Court on Monday (July 27).
The court heard how in April, Wiltshire Police received a call from the victim reporting she had been assaulted by Conners on multiple occasions, with whom she had been in a relationship with for only two months.
On March 30, Conners assaulted the victim by biting her and spitting on her, as well as repeatedly calling her derogatory names.
Two days later, he accused the victim of messaging other people and pushed her to the floor.
And on April 2, Conners assaulted the victim again, kicking her to the head after pushing her to the floor, punched her in the ribs and face and again spat in her face.
When the victim tried to leave the address, Conners blocked her from leaving. The victim fortunately didn’t suffer any serious injuries.
Conners was arrested, charged, and remanded into custody.
After the hearing, T/DC Hannah Ferris, based at Central CID, said: “Conners’ behaviour was absolutely abhorrent, and I want to commend the victim for having the strength to report his abuse to the police.
“Her courage in coming forward and detailing the awful assaults that Conners committed against her has meant that a domestic abuser has been put behind bars.
“Cases such as this demonstrate the importance of our commitment to reducing and preventing violence against women and girls, one of the Force’s three key priorities.
