MUSIC lovers in Salisbury are being invited to take centre stage later this month as a mass karaoke event promises to turn the Market Place into a giant open-air singalong.
Hosted by Salisbury Radio, the free event will see the crowd become the performers, with lyrics displayed on a big screen and a soundtrack of crowd-pleasing hits.
Festivities begin at 4pm with a family-friendly session aimed at younger singers.
Expect everything from Disney favourites to K-pop, alongside chart hits from artists like Taylor Swift and Bruno Mars.
As the evening rolls on, the tone shifts.
From 6.30pm, the playlist leans into all-time anthems, with classics such as Mr Brightside, Sweet Caroline and Summer of ’69 designed to get the whole square singing.
But it’s not just about the music.
Organisers promise plenty of audience participation, including sing-offs, dance competitions and the chance for the crowd to choose upcoming songs. Prizes will also be up for grabs throughout the evening.
Salisbury Radio presenter Craig Hicks will lead the event from the stage, encouraging residents of all ages to join in.
He said: “We want to hear the city sing! We want all ages to come along and belt out some huge tracks and get a party started in the market square.
“As soon as we heard the city council were putting a stage in the square, we knew we wanted to come and do something fun but a bit different.”
Alongside the entertainment, there will be a bar on site and bucket collections in aid of the Stars Appeal, supporting Salisbury District Hospital.
Craig added: “What better way to raise money for such an amazing cause than by having fun?”
The event takes place on Friday, April 24, with organisers hoping for a strong turnout to create a party atmosphere in the heart of the city.
