POLICE in Ringwood say a busy weekend of patrols and investigations has led to key developments in tackling anti-social behaviour (ASB) and crime across the area.
Officers from New Forest Police carried out proactive work using both marked and unmarked vehicles, responding to reports from the public and following up on ongoing concerns.
One incident saw officers track down a Ford Fiesta linked to ASB near Moyles Court.
A marked unit attended the scene, where cannabis, catapults and other drug-related items were found inside the vehicle.
The driver was subjected to roadside drug testing.
PC Bigland said: “The driver also had a long wait after being drugs wiped and (thankfully for him) came in under the limit. I think it served as a wake-up call after only recently starting to drive.”
Passengers in the car were dealt with for cannabis possession, while one was also linked to a previous incident at Bransgore Village Hall.
Police stressed that the stop was only possible thanks to information from the public.
“This vehicle information was only actionable because of the public reporting suspicious activity to use so please keep doing so,” PC Bigland added.
Elsewhere, officers are investigating a shoplifting incident in Poulner, where the suspect fled so quickly, they left behind key evidence.
“We have also been investigating a shoplifting incident in Poulner where the thief was in such a rush to get away that he left his coat and balaclava behind.
“They were located a short distance from the store, and we presume an effort to change his identity. I’m sure they will yield a DNA match in the coming days.”
In a separate incident, a vehicle suspected of being involved in hare coursing was abandoned in the road after the driver lost control.
PC Bigland said: “We also had a vehicle recently that was suspected to be involved in hare coursing, left in the middle of the road after the driver ran out of talent on a bend.
“It is a miracle that nobody hit it, as the occupants fled the scene before police arrival showing no regard for anyone else. However, the registered keeper has questions to answer soon.”
Officers say patrols will continue and urge residents to continue reporting suspicious activity
