SALISBURY is set to burst into life this weekend as the city prepares for a packed St George’s Day celebration filled with dragons, knights and plenty of family fun.
On Sunday, Market Place and Guildhall Square will be transformed into a lively festival space from 10am to 4pm, with a full day of free entertainment.
The festivities will kick off just before 10am with an opening parade outside the Guildhall, featuring the much-loved Salisbury Giant, setting the tone for a colourful and energetic day in the city centre.
Visitors can expect a mix of history and hands-on fun, with medieval re-enactments, Morris dancing and even an interactive dragon roaming the streets at intervals throughout the day.
Children can step into the action at “knight school”, while circus skills workshops and fair rides promise to keep younger visitors entertained.
There will also be free craft workshops running all day, alongside street performers, puppet shows and live demonstrations, including traditional forge work.
Food and drink stalls will line the market, offering plenty of options for those making a day of it.
History lovers can take part in a special St George’s themed walking tour of the city at midday, or head inside the Guildhall for a talk exploring “The Quest for the Salisbury Dragon” at 1pm.
The event, organised by Salisbury City Council, is designed to bring the community together while celebrating tradition in a fun and accessible way.
With activities spread throughout the day, organisers are expecting strong crowds and a buzzing atmosphere across the city centre.
Whether it is watching medieval battles, trying out circus tricks or simply soaking up the atmosphere, this year’s St George’s Day event promises something for all ages.
