Egg-citement as third peregrine chick hatches at Salisbury Cathedral

THREE out of the four peregrine falcon eggs have now hatched at Salisbury Cathedral.

The latest arrival made itself known to the world at around 8am this morning – and was caught on the Salisbury Cathedral livestream.

This comes after the first hatched on Wednesday afternoon (April 23) with the second arriving later that night.

The proud parents have been spotted swapping brooding duties, with the fourth chick expected to make an appearance in the coming days.

RSPB South Wilts have reassured eagle-eyed viewers who expressed concern that only one chick was being fed.

“Rest assured that these parents know exactly which chick is which, who has been fed and who will need feeding next,” a spokesperson said.

“Males need a bit less food than females, first born will be fed before next-born etc.

“The parents have it all under control, because nature is even more amazing than we give it credit for!

“A fed chick will have a full, bulging crop (expandable pouch in the neck to cram lots of food in!). When will we all see number 4?”

Three chicks successfully fledged the nest at the cathedral last year – and it looks like this is set to be beaten this year.
