Final days to have your say on Wiltshire parking charge changes

RESIDENTS, businesses and organisations are being urged to have their say on proposed changes to parking charges as the consultation enters its final days.

The review could have a direct impact on drivers in Salisbury and across the county, including changes to tariffs, charging hours and Sunday parking rules.

The consultation, part of the statutory Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) process, closes on Tuesday (May 5).

The proposals being consulted on include:

• An average 20% rise in parking charges in 2026, followed by a further 5% rise in 2028
• Extending parking charging hours to 7am–7pm
• Aligning Sunday charges with weekday tariffs
• Reintroducing on-street Sunday charging in Salisbury
• Adjusting season ticket and permit fees in line with any tariff changes

It follows a wider review of parking policy to ensure it reflects Wiltshire Council’s Local Transport Plan 4 (LTP4) and Parking Sub Strategy.

The council says parking charges have not increased since 2022, despite inflation rising by more than 20% and operational costs continuing to climb.

Cabinet member for highways Cllr Martin Smith said: “This consultation closes soon, and we are reminding anyone who has not yet taken the time to have their say to do so now.

“We are keen to hear from residents, businesses and community groups from across Wiltshire.

“Parking charges have remained unchanged since 2022, despite significant inflationary pressures during that time.

“These proposals aim to ensure our parking services remain fair, sustainable and broadly in line with charges in neighbouring authorities.

“No decision has been made, and this consultation is a vital part of the statutory process. I would urge anyone with an interest in Wiltshire’s parking provision to take the time to have their say.”

The council says feedback will be considered before any final decisions are made.

Parking charges are way too high already. Don t change times to 7 am to 7 pm. Also if you want people to use the park and ride have more frequent buses. Every half an hour is ridiculous. Every 10 to 15 minutes would be far more useful. I used to use park and ride but having to wait 30 minutes if you just miss a bus is crazy.

Better promotion of oark and ride needed at same price structure as now. Increase 1 hour parking to about £1.90. (20 pence increase) realign Sunday structure to make the pricing more agreeable to encourage for fall. Stop the pay hour as now at 6pm
