A MAN from Salisbury has been sentenced after admitting breaking into a city centre nightclub and attempting to raid a safe.
Liam Waters, 27, of Wessex Road, appeared before Swindon Magistrates’ Court today after pleading guilty to burglary with intent to steal.
The court heard how Waters was arrested inside Chapel Nightclub in Milford Street during the early hours of yesterday (June 2), after police were alerted to suspicious activity.
CCTV footage showed Waters allegedly attempting to break into a safe and stealing alcohol inside the venue.
Officers arrived within minutes and arrested him at the scene.
Waters was handed a community order and ordered to complete a rehabilitation requirement. He was also fined £114, with time spent in detention counted as served after he was detained for non-payment.
Temporary Police Sergeant Jen Howells praised the swift response that led to the arrest.
She said: “Burglary is a hugely impactful crime – not only in financial terms but also emotionally. We take all such cases extremely seriously and will deal with all reports robustly.
“In this case, within 15 minutes of the call being made to us by a member of the public, we were able to arrest this individual at the scene and bring him into custody.
“This was a result of rapid deployment and coordination with the witness in this case.”
Police say burglary reports are treated seriously and encouraged businesses and residents to take steps to protect their properties.
