Music journalist Jude Rogers to speak in Salisbury

MUSIC lovers in Salisbury are being invited to a special evening exploring the powerful role music plays in shaping our lives.

Acclaimed journalist, broadcaster and former Mercury Music Prize judge Jude Rogers will be speaking on Thursday, May 14, as part of Salisbury Cathedral’s ‘Joyful Noise’ programme.

Rogers will discuss her best-selling book The Sound of Being Human: How Music Shapes Our Lives, which blends memoir, cultural history and music criticism.

In it, she reflects on 12 songs that have marked key moments in her life, from childhood grief to adulthood, relationships and parenthood.

The book has been praised as “a jewel”, offering a deeply personal and thought-provoking look at how music connects to memory, identity and emotion.

The talk will see Rogers in conversation with the Revd Tim Daykin, followed by a question-and-answer session with the audience. There will also be an opportunity for attendees to have books signed after the event.

The evening forms part of the cathedral’s year-long ‘Joyful Noise’ theme, inspired by the Psalms, which celebrates the unifying and uplifting power of music and sound.

Organisers say the event promises to be both moving and insightful, appealing to anyone who has ever found meaning in a favourite song.
