AN HISTORIC chapel that has stood empty for some time could soon have a new purpose with community groups and organisations invited to come forward with ideas.
Salisbury City Council has launched a call for expressions of interest as it looks to secure a long-term future for the building in Devizes Road Cemetery, which is currently a consecrated chapel.
While it remains a place of worship, the council said the chapel would be willing to explore de-consecrating the building if a suitable proposal would allow it to become a valuable community asset.
The authority is keen to hear from organisations that can demonstrate how the chapel could benefit the wider community while respecting its historic character and ensuring the building remains sustainable for years to come.
Chair of the council’s commercial services committee Cllr Sam Foster said: “Ensuring the chapel continues to be part of and benefit the community is important.
“Therefore, we welcome all ideas for the chapel’s future that can demonstrate those long-term benefits for both the building and the wider community. If you have a proposal, please get in touch.”
Expressions of interest must be submitted by email to facilities@salisburycitycouncil.gov.uk before August 31.
After the deadline, the city council will review all proposals before deciding on the chapel’s future.
